What’s a Good Film I Have Not Seen?

I do love a good film. When I can, I try to watch at least one a day, time and family permitting. I get suggestions from places like Twitter, Reddit, 9Gag and anywhere else people shout about great movies. I’m terrible for pausing films to see who an actor is. Then I look up everything else they’ve been in.

The title of this page, “What’s a Good Film I’ve Not Seen”, is something I’ve typed into Google myself more times than I’d like to admit. Sometimes it brings up absolute gems, other times not so much. So I decided to put together a list of films I genuinely enjoyed and that you might not have seen yet.

Disclaimer: These are films I’ve enjoyed. As with anything subjective, you may disagree and that’s completely fine. Feel free to leave a comment if you agree, disagree or want to add a “If you liked that, try watching…” suggestion. I love discovering new films as much as sharing them.

Good Films IMHO!

Blood Simple (1984)

The Coen Brothers’ debut is a tight, paranoid crime story set in a sweaty, dust filled Texas underworld. A jealous husband hires a private investigator to kill his wife and her lover. It does not go to plan.

What follows is a chain of bad decisions driven by fear, suspicion, and people not knowing as much as they think they do. Every character is working off incomplete information, and that’s where the film really lives.

A few things that make it work so well:

The tension comes from misunderstanding rather than action. You often know more than the characters, and watching them spiral is the whole point.
Frances McDormand is excellent, but it is M. Emmet Walsh who stands out. Quiet, greasy, and completely untrustworthy.
The camera work is far more inventive than you’d expect from a debut. Simple shots, but used with intent to build unease.

It feels raw compared to later Coen films. Less polished, more grounded, and arguably more tense because of it.

Fuze (2026)

It definitely has a whiff of “straight to streaming”, but the story is stronger than you’d expect. It sets you up to think you’ve spotted plot holes, then circles back and closes them off in a satisfying way.

As an ex‑squaddie, I take issue with some of the military inaccuracies, TRFs, RLC cap badges… come on, but none of it breaks the film. The core story is solid enough to carry you through to its logical conclusion.

A few things that make it work so well:

Theo James: I’ve only really seen him in The Gentlemen (series), but he’s excellent here: deliberately unlikeable, and it works.
Backed by a sensible budget and some solid names, the film makes good use of its locations, keeping things believable without trying to look bigger than it is.
The structure: Well paced, with enough left turns and plot twists — plus explanatory callbacks, to keep the momentum from start to finish.

Bull (2021)

I do love a low budget British crime drama. The titular character returns after ten years (presumed by everyone to be dead) and proceeds to wreak revenge and carnage at the underworld figures he previously muscled for. While you start to root for Bull, he cannot be described as the ‘hero’, he’s not even an anti‑hero. He’s a force of nature, almost folkloric, like a revenant stalking the scumbags who wronged him. The film keeps you rooting for him because the people he’s hunting are even worse, but the script never pretends he’s righteous.

A few things that make it work so well:

Neil Maskell gives Bull this terrifying, dead‑eyed calm, he’s not raging, he’s inevitable.
The film’s tight runtime and low budget actually help. No filler, no glamour, no stylised gangster nonsense, just grimy, believable nastiness.
The structure (with its flashbacks and slow reveals) keeps you off balance until the final turn, which reframes the whole story in a way that pushes it from crime drama into something closer to modern folklore or horror.
