What’s a Good Film I Have Not Seen?

I do love a low budget British crime drama. The titular character returns after ten years (presumed by everyone to be dead) and proceeds to wreak revenge and carnage at the underworld figures he previously muscled for. While you start to root for Bull, he cannot be described as the ‘hero’, he’s not even an anti‑hero. He’s a force of nature, almost folkloric, like a revenant stalking the scumbags who wronged him. The film keeps you rooting for him because the people he’s hunting are even worse, but the script never pretends he’s righteous.

A few things that make it work so well:

• Neil Maskell gives Bull this terrifying, dead‑eyed calm, he’s not raging, he’s inevitable. 

• The film’s tight runtime and low budget actually help. No filler, no glamour, no stylised gangster nonsense, just grimy, believable nastiness.

• The structure (with its flashbacks and slow reveals) keeps you off balance until the final turn, which reframes the whole story in a way that pushes it from crime drama into something closer to modern folklore or horror.
